The Project

G-Raid Trans Afrika Expedition 2010

A unique adventure trip with a lasting purpose
You are looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience?

The overland expedition to the Football World Championship in South Africa might be the very thing.
4 Mercedes Benz G-Class vehicles will be driven overland to Cape Town on the occasion of the World Football Championship.
At their final destination the 4 expedition vehicles will be donated to charity and passed into reliable hands. During the trip the expedition participants  - 8 people per each section - will experience a luxurious adventure trip through Africa and at the same time will be sensitised to the concerns of the continent through this experience.
Travelling time can be chosen flexibly and may range from 7 - 42 days. The expedition will take place from April 23 until June 6, 2010.

The complete package of this extraordinary expedition includes the acquisition of the vehicles, destination charges, travelling expenses, hotel and lodge overnight expenses; flights are not included.
The participants will receive a donation receipt for 25 % of the travelling expenses for the portion containing vehicle and destination charges. For the remaining amount they will receive an invoice for accommodation and flights.
The Hatari! Lodge in Tanzania is a partner in this project.
Organiser is the association for off-road vehicles called "Gesellschaft für Geländewagen (GFG)". The German Emergency Doctors Committee „Cap Anamur e.V." as well as the Momella Foundation in Tanzania are the sponsoring non-profit institutions.
The vehicles (exclusively Mercedes Benz G-Class) will subsequently be used as supply vehicles for hospitals and schools.

Adventure Africa!
An expedition into the intriguing and varied African and Arabian world.
Through shimmering desert areas, along old caravan routes, to the filming locations of „Lawrence of Arabia", „Indiana Jones", „Out of Africa" and „Hatari!", to the remains of long-vanished advanced civilizations. We will experience a genuine Arabia and Africa: Deserts, oceans, mountain landscapes, fertile highlands, and savannahs rich in wildlife (Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater); the mighty snow-covered Mount Kenya, the Kilimanjaro, the Ocavango Delta, the Kalahari, and the Victoria Falls.

Challenging off-road passages lead through sand, rain forest, and the impressive wildlife of the savannahs.
90 % of the overnight stays will be in four star hotels and colonial-style safari lodges. Even with luxurious overnight stays the expedition will be trying because we will travel an average of 350 km (217 miles) per day on partially bad roads.
